Depeche Mode - Precious

'Precious' is the addictive first single from Depeche Mode's eagerly anticipated eleventh studio album 'Playing The Angel'. The single is released October 3rd on MUTE and the album follows on October 17th.

Written by Martin Gore and produced by Ben Hillier (of Doves and Blur fame) the new single is quintessential Depeche Mode with a kinetic hook, hypnotic vocals and a glorious chorus.

Depeche Mode are Dave Gahan, Andy 'Fletch' Fletcher and Martin Gore.

"Ben Hillier has brought a whole new dynamic to the group which is quite inspiring." says Dave Gahan. "It's better being in Depeche Mode now than it has been for 15 years."

Depeche Mode recently announced a world tour which starts in the US this November before coming to Europe in early 2006. The UK dates are:

Precious (Making of Music Video)

Unauthorized release: 19 July 2005

The video and track, "Precious" (Making of Music Video), is out on the internet streets. 19 July the track and an unedited version of the video have quickly spread in the close circle of Depeche Mode fans worldwide. The administrator of the server where the track is hosted informed: "So far we have had over 11.000 requests for the track and it looks like it is going up very fast every minute." Asked where the track got leaked from, he said: "All looks like the leaks came from people from the band's label seeing the quality of the leaked material, especially the video. And if there was any doubt, the speed of how this download got 'known' to the outside world just convinces me even more that this is a promo stunt. Most sources online were fed almost simultaneously, a fan would have a daytime job doing this..."

Mute Records issued a statement (21 July 2005): "The means in which the track was obtained is under investigation, we understand that it may have been obtained illegally. We are disappointed with the early leak of the track and video and we are in the process of ensuring all unauthorised files are removed as quickly as possible."

Unfinished "Precious" video got leaked when the website of QFilm, the company producing the video, presumably by accident, put up the video on what was supposed to be a secure portion of their website.

BBC. 18 August 2005: Police have arrested a man in Poland who allegedly made a Depeche Mode single and video available to download from the internet ahead of its release. The single, Precious, is not due to be released until October but was found on a Polish website. The band's record label, working with industry groups, managed to trace the origin of the files. Police said the video was accessed from a supposedly secure copy and illegally made public. An address in Kielce, Poland, was raided by police who removed two computers and a number of CDs said to contain copied music. The International Federation of Phonographic Industries (IFPI) worked with Polish industry group ZPAV and Depeche Mode's label Mute to have the files removed.
